It was the summer after Angie had returned from Florida. It rained earlier that afternoon, and the earth had the distinct smell of rain after a warm day. Summers usually made Angie very happy because she liked to wear shorts and tank tops and also because she did not have many warm clothes. I parked my car right outside Angie’s grandparents’ apartment in the housing project. We were planning to eat Chinese food, but Angie had told me over the phone that we needed to do something “important” at her home before we went to eat. I walked into Angie’s house, where she was playing with a black Dell laptop.
